There is no fear in love; for perfect love casteth out fear.
                                                                             - I John 4:18

"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.

Luke 6: 27-29

After Constantinople Legalized Christianity

  1. During the Roman Empire when Christianity was illegal, Martydom was a very honorable act to die like a Christ by not giving up Christianity (aka Red Martydom)
  2. Nevertheless, when Christianity was legalized in the new rising city of Constantinople, no Christians were forced to be persecuted and Red Martydom didn't exist anymore.
  3. To keep the honor to follow the steps of Christ, Christians made White Martydom to replace Red Martydom. A White Martydom was to become a monk and make committment to Christ till the end.

Monk Antony

  1. 1st to live in Egypt
  2. became wealthy orphan with his sister when his parents died
  3. one day he was late to mass and when he entered he heard "Go and sell all you have and come and follow me." He took this literally and sold everything he had, left some for his sister, and became a monk
  4. he moved to desert and lived alone. The word Monk is derived from Mono which means one, one to live alone in the desert.

Monk Community

  1. community was important = monks met every Sunday
  2. later, since it hard to come every Sunday, the monks lived together as an independent community (not rely on each other)
  3. monks were very independent
  4. the monks' community also became a school because the monks were every educated

Some Monks...
